THE GATHERING, November 4 – 7, 2011
The Gathering, an event that will see the best of Australia’s fine binders descend on Canberra to share their work, their wit, their ideas, their tips and their techniques. The Canberra Craft Bookbinders Guild is organising the event. It will showcase the arts and crafts of traditional bookbinding and the skills of the fine design binder.
The aims of the Gathering are to:
- Promote traditional bookbinding and to develop fine binding and contemporary decoration techniques, and,
- Meet fellow binders, to exchange ideas and to share information.
Lectures and demonstrations will cover aspects of traditional hand binding and contemporary design. They will include:

Tour of Canberra to places of interest to bookbinders including books from the rare book collection at the National Library of Australia and a visit to the Canberra Bookbinders Guild exhibition.
Displays During the conference there will be displays of techniques, tools and equipment.
Trade Tables Will be open during breaks for suppliers to display their wares.
Books in sheets will also be on sale.
